Economics, finance & technology

Matías
Ortiz.

I work where economics, finance, and technology meet. And I like to follow a good question wherever it leads.

01 / A wider perspective
Rooted in Bolivia. Curious about the world.

From Cochabamba, Bolivia. Based in Washington, D.C.

A personal collection of work & ideas

Currently

World Bank Group Treasury

Finance in service of development.

I’m a Junior Analyst at World Bank Group Treasury, working with the Advisory & Partnership team on the Reserve Advisory & Management Partnership (RAMP).

My work supports advisory engagements with public institutions and the information behind them: preparing technical missions, bringing data together, and measuring what participants learn in our workshops.

  • Public asset management
  • Data & reporting
  • Capacity building

01 / Selected work

Questions turned into work.

A few things I’ve researched, written, and helped build. Each began with a question worth spending time on.

02 / The longer story

It started with
a book about the stars.

When I was twelve, my grandfather gave me a copy of Cosmos by Carl Sagan. It opened up a much larger world. Alongside the fascination with the universe came a question closer to home: how could we understand—and improve—the way we live together?

Economics became one way to pursue that question. I studied Economics at Universidad Privada Boliviana and Finance at the University of London, under the academic direction of LSE. Research taught me to examine an argument. Building things taught me to find out whether it works.

In 2025, I left Bolivia for a summer at World Bank Treasury. I returned to Washington as a Junior Analyst in 2026. The setting has changed, but the impulse is familiar: learn carefully, ask better questions, and put what I learn to use.

03 / Along the way

Learning, then doing. Then learning again.
