Essay · Economics
The minimum wage: a double-edged sword.
A coauthored essay on minimum-wage policy in Bolivia, awarded second place in the Central Bank’s 2019 national school competition.
A question with more than one side
Written with María Alejandra Claure Rodríguez for the XII School Essay Contest of the Central Bank of Bolivia, the essay examines minimum-wage increases and their implications for workers, employers, and the Bolivian economy.
We brought together historical figures, a review of existing arguments, and interviews with people who approached the question from different professional and personal perspectives. The aim was to understand why the same policy could be welcomed by some and questioned by others.
An early step into economics
The essay received second place in the national competition. For me, its lasting significance is also personal: it was an early opportunity to connect an economic argument to the people and institutions affected by it.
I share it here as student writing from 2019. Its data and analysis belong to that period, and it records an early stage in how I learned to approach economic questions.
